VIP Exclusive’s Tampa Premier Fashion Show
Azucar Walks: The Show Must Go On…..

The new arrival on the Tampa Bay Fashion scene – the company VIP Exclusive, with CEO Terrence Shaw – hosted their first fashion show in the Tampa Bay area for the charity Heels to Heal last Saturday January 21st, 2012. The company’s premier fashion show featured local designers Zhanna Kens, Only Jackie Tan True, and Lapratto.
The designer Fransisco Azucar came all the way from Miami with a crew of people to present a collection, but walked out on VIP at the last moment, saying the production was not organized to his standards to complete his vision. VIP Exclusive’s charity event boasted a ‘luxury’ aesthetic, with an upscale venue and Ferrari sponsorship, promoting the show with a ticket price of $35 ($45 at the door). Mikel and Miss Clearwater 2013 (yes, Cher from Sweet Sixteen) were there for entertainment.
Apparently, VIP Exclusive made the mistake of relying on the entertainment to bring enough hair and make-up people to complete 3 designer’s models with almost 20 looks each. But the show must go on, right? The designer Only Jackie Tan True pulled though at the last minute to fill in, and Zhanna Kens and Lapratto were determined to remain professional and turned the night around with their passion for fashion!
Zhanna Kens:
The Russian spitfire bombshell Zhanna Kens brought luxury to the show, with glamorous, sexy, dance and ballroom inspired metallic evening gowns covered in Swarovski crystals. Stylists Egla Lujan and Yara Ocasio saved the night for the Zhanna Kens crew, doing amazing hair and make-up for 20 looks! The opening look immediately set the tone: a beautiful purple metallic, short ruffle skirted dress with a crystal encrusted peep bra, on a uber sexy model with 20s Hollywood glamour inspired hair and make-up. The designs were clearly made by a woman, for women, featuring stretchy metallic and shimmering fabrics that highlight a woman’s shape. The black and silver, and light blue full length gowns along with Zhanna’s personal look, showed an elegant side to Zhanna Kens’ designs – featuring draping. Zhanna Kens’ personal look gets my best dressed award for the night!
Only Jackie Tan True:
Only Jackie Tan True rushed to fill in for a no-show designer, and pulled it off. Only Jackie Tan True represents Florida beach style fashion, and specializes in intricate seamless crochet designs made of 100% nylon, knit in Peru. The highlights of the show were a pink and white mini-dress cover-up, a white crochet pant suit cover-up and a gray full length gown cover-up, with a knit texture reminiscent of fishing net, and the hot male models definitely helped the production.
Lapratto:
The head liner of the night came out with impact, showing their personal style using current trends. Lapratto showed off their modern, contemporary, hip, unique voice in the Tampa fashion world. Print bikinis started the show, to represent Tampa’s beachy fashion foundations, but then their inspiration shined. Lapratto featured black and white retro bottom cut one pieces with cut outs and bright pops of color, and cover-ups on another level layered on top.
Lapratto’s fashionable take on the cover-up transformed into clear PVC fabric dresses and motorcycle jackets over bathing suits. One designer of Lapratto - KP (aka Kid Prince, of fashion) – described their inspiration as a take on the story The Emperor’s New Clothes; the old story where the emperor is tricked by his tailor into showing his naked body in public, by convincing the king to wear his luxurious ‘invisible’ clothes. The theme perfectly lent itself to the swimwear world: tailored, modern, outer wear that is a trick on the eye. The artistic expression paired with a good concept, gave Jonathan Ferrucci and KP the ability to show tailored clothing while showing off the body in a bathing suit underneath.
